Sequels, prequels, and whatnot

Hollywood is desperately in love with the concept of sequels, prequels and remakes and whatnot, so here are a few films that fit the bill:

1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Slated to come out sometime this year, with Leonard Nemoy, who is best known for his role as Spock in Star Trek, voicing the Fallen. Shia Lebouf and Megan Fox will be also returning to their starring roles.

2. GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra
Another classic brought to life, is due out sometime this year as well.


3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
A two-part movie that will be shown in 2010 and 2011 to cap off the successful movie series about the boy wizard.

4. The Hobbit
Another 2-part movie, a prequel this time, to be released in 2011 and 2012. Guillermo del Toro directs.

Star’s Crash and Burn - Who’s to Blame

lindsayWell, as life goes in the fast lane, they are to blame for their predicaments like Lindsay, Paris, Rihanna and many other young Hollywood starlets who get their worlds turned several times over as the press keeps up with their daily lives. Their initial goal is to garner fame and recognition as some of the hottest talents, never mind the age, ending up getting burned by the same people who shot them to fame. The Pap’s and many other people who provide tips and twitter on their whereabouts where ever they are, they lose all sense of privacy which is part of the price they have to pay for being famous. Why not buy your own island like Mel Gibson so the press can’t get to you, or buy your own jet like John who scoots the world on his own jet taking his family everywhere he goes. Life is harsh and so the more when you are the spotlight.
Many of the young folks in Hollywood use this kind of free publicity to their advantage, well, till it goes too far. From their summer vacations to their everyday drive they try to escape the ever present cameras and video who are on the hunt 24/7. Why don’t they act like simple people so they would be treated as such? Well, fame is a two-edged sword, swing to the left and you get free headlines, to the right and you ge burned!

Celebrity Babies are In

preghalleMany of our favorite stars have had babies this year that has resulted in a sudden interest for babies or soon to be babies. Though obviously a private affair, babies in Hollywood get the same treatment as their parents do which can be seen with the thousands upon thousands of pictures that are on the internet about them. Some of the best like Brad and Angelina’s twins have been much anticipated as well as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Halle Berry also had her baby this year as well as Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Garner and many more. Marriages were also broken with Maddona’s much publicized separation from Guy that resulted in a rumored $47 million settlement that she strongly denies (some say she’s worth $300,000,000). Britney has managed to salvage her career and many more from her next year as we wait for the new year with new celebrity news and gossip from around the globe.

Salma Hayek’s Got Milk

Salma Hayek , last year, gave birth to her daughter, Valentina. After a year or so, she reveals that she cant stop herself from breastfeeding her beautiful little gem. She says she is having a hard time stopping it because she feels that breastfeeding is doing her baby good. She doesnt really mind if it comes to a point that breastfeeding hurts and she begins to cry. She admits that breastfeeding is very painful and that the myth that you can lose wight when you breastfeed more is not at all true. She says that as long as she sees the baby still wants to breast feed, she will have to continue it. She believes that breastfeeding is a very powerful way of bonding with the kid. Which brings to us the conclusion that Breastfeeding is Still Best for Babies.

Iron Man 2

Iron Man grossed nearly $580 million worldwide and the talks of an Iron Man sequel began already. Well good news for all of us fans, Robert Downey Jr. has signed the deal with Marvel Studios for two more Iron Man sequels. So there you have it, the first stages of the process are beginning to fit in its rightful places. More good news is the fact that Tony Stark and his alter ego will star in the upcoming film, The Avengers. The planning of Iron Man is well under way. And DOn Cheadle will be cast to play the role of Col. James Rhodes. While it is not yet confirmed if Downey will be in the cast. Jon Favreau is slotted to direct the film and he will serve as the producer on The Avengers. The film will feature the main Marvel characters Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Thor. Iron Man 2 is scheduled to be released on May 7, 2010. The Avengers on July 15, 2011. Downey is seen this 2nd half of 2008 in Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller.

Missing Paul Newman

Like the song goes, “Some good things never last.” Much as we hate it, life is transitory and fleeting. This week, one or our most beloved iconic screen stars, Paul Newman (1925-2008) died at home due to complications arising from cancer. But his influence and his example, will continue to live on to the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

You may have seen him in films like Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid,with Robert Redford, Cool Hand Luke, The Color Of Money & most recently, the 2002 film Road To Perdition with Tom Hanks.
For the younger generation, he also brought to life the character of Doc Hudson from the Disney-Pixar movie Cars. He and actress Joanne Woodward, is hailed as having one of the most durable Hollywood marriages, having achieved 50 years together. He was also a genuine philanthropist, founding Newman’s Own, a line of food products that donates all proceeds of the sale to charity.

Necessities on Walmart

Wal-Mart Stores reported Thursday that sales in September were at the low-end of of its own forecast as its mostly paycheck-to-paycheck customers sustained to pull back on optional purchases other than clothing and groceries.

The No. 1 retailer said sales at its stores open at least a year, a key measure of retail performance known as same-store sales, rose 2.4% last month. Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500) had forecast a gain of between 2% and 3%.

Wal-Mart said gains were led by grocery and clothing purchases, and that other discretionary purchases were soft.

For October, the company said it expects same-store sales to boost between 1% to 2%.

Ken Perkins, president of sales tracker Retail Metrics, said he expects other discount chains to report alike trends as more consumers clamp down.

“The financial crisis that’s taken place leading to a credit market freeze is clearly hurting an already soft spending environment,” Perkins said. “Today’s sales numbers will offer a clear-cut warning signal that we’re heading for a very difficult holiday sales season,” he said.

That’s a huge problem for retailers given that the gift-buying months of November and December account for more than half of merchants profits and sales for the year.

Indiana Jones

 Indiana Jones - Harrison Ford

The first choice for the role of Indiana Jones was Tom Selleck and not Harrison Ford, for George Lucas has already cast him repeatedly and wanted to avoid being labeled as another Scorsese who repeatedly cast Robert DeNiro. Spielberg also wanted to do a Bond film and did not know anything about Indiana Smith, yes, you heard me right. The first name chosen for the film was Indiana Smith which Spielberg disliked and changed to Jones after a casual suggestion from Lucas. The outline of the main character (Indiana Jones) was decided on long before any cameras rolled. The Fedora (Indiana’s Hat), was so iconic that if it fell or was accidentally blown off everything stopped till it was back on Ford’s head which caused a re-shoot of the scene.

Of Yesteryear’s Glamorous Stars to Today’s High-Profile, Casual Stars

I really don’t get what happened to Hollywood.

Sure, there still are “stars” in the area, but the definition of stars have greatly changed from the days when an actor or actress is considered unreachable (thus being called a “star”) to an actor (or actress) walking about in the area in a pair of large sunglasses, carrying a Starbucks coffee in one hand and a teeny tiny dog in another.

Back in the time when films were in black and white, when you want to be an actor, you have to have the talent & the looks. Nowadays, if you have The Package (big boobs, great asses & a badass personality to boot), and you appear on screen (TV or movie) no matter how long your screentime is, you are called an actor.
